Salem, MA Graveyard
This graveyard is the site of the Witch Trial judges, as well as the memorial to the poor men and women that were falsely accused and convicted of witchcraft.
We discovered that Boston is the city of tunnels! After driving around and under the city, we finally got onto the freeway and began our tip to Salem. The drive was very pretty, taking us past trees on their way to fall colors, beautiful little towns, and even a little water.
Salem was a very beautiful little town. We went to the Salem Witch Trial museum and enjoyed the informational show. I have a vague recollection of the witch trials from junior high, but this show jogged memories and added to them. The information was presented well and really showed how awful and scary a time the trials took place in.
After lunch, we went to the New England Pirate Museum in Salem. Their presentation was fun and interesting, although the guide talked VERY fast. It was interesting to see the artifacts and hear the tales of pirates from the local area.
Salem was also in the middle of their month long halloween celebration. We wandered through the fair in the middle of town and enjoyed looking at the booths and stores.
Finally we got back on the road and made our way to Kennebunkport. The drive into Maine was very peaceful and beautiful. Kennebunkport is a beautiful little tourist town. The homes and buildings are all quaint and old fashioned. We enjoyed a great seafood dinner at a local restaurant.
More tomorrow!
