Autumn colors abound on the Kancamagus Highway
The highway parallels the Swift River from Conway, New Hampshire to Lincoln, New Hampshire.
Wow what a day! Where to begin...
We had breakfast at a wonderful little place called Peaches. The food was great, and following the advice of the napkin notes under glass at each table I decided to try their bacon. It was AMAZINGLY good bacon. So the advice was certainly justified.
We drove out of town and got onto the Kancamagus highway. The views were breathtaking. the Swift river to our right the whole way was a great traveling companion. We stopped a few times to get fall foliage photos and to see the river close up. On one of these stops we hiked down to the river and climbed carefully along the rocks to see a small waterfall and some more leaves. Unfortunately I lost my footing and slid down some rocks towards the river. My camera hit the rock and I bashed my elbow and tailbone. The camera lost a sunshade but otherwise came through the ordeal unscathed. I on the other hand am aching a bit and am a bit embarrassed about the fall.
After this slip up, we continued on toward Stowe. The drive was still breathtaking and we have decided that while every place we have been so far has been wonderful, Vermont is particularly beautiful. The foliage in Vermont seems to be further along in its color changing process.
We finally arrived at our hotel and were again surprised to find that our room had been upgraded. We have another suite with a fireplace, a kitchen area, and a large bedroom. We don’t know what we did to get the upgrades, but we’re sure not complaining!
More to come! Tomorrow we hit the BEN and JERRY’S Factory! And more!
