Airline delays
06/26/2008 08:32 PM
Traveling for work today. I am sitting on the tarmac waiting for the FAA to give us the go-ahead to take off. Seems there are some wild fires outside of Phoenix airport that are hampering visibility. Nothing that can be controlled by humans, but it seems to me that if the airline I am on had been able to TAKE OFF ON TIME, this delay would not have happened.

LA Zoo Photo Day
11/19/2007 01:34 AM

Gerenuk, LA Zoo
The name Gerenuk means Giraffe Necked in Swahili. They are one of the only antelopes that stand on their hind legs to get their food.
Today was the 18th annual LA Zoo Photo Day. Once again Pauls Photo and the zoo put on a great event. There were approximately 200 people and more photography gear than you could shake a pointed stick at!

Provincetown

Slat fence along Herring Run Beach outside Provincetown, MA.
What a difference from the California Beaches we are used to. The water is clear, the sand is cleaner, and the areas are surrounded by all types of flora.
Oops! Last day of our trip entry is kind of late. My only excuse is that we came back to the hotel from a wonderful anniversary dinner and had to pack and get ready to wake up early for our drive back to Boston Airport. (I’m sitting in the airport writing this.)

Stopped on the beach and hiked a bit to capture this little guy.
Today was a nice drive, but otherwise a bit of a lazy day. We drove from Rhode Island to Cape Cod and arrived at our hotel. Since we were a bit lazy today, the photo above is from yesterday.

Ben and Jerry's and more!
10/12/2007 01:13 AM

Ben and Jerry’s factory sign
The tour was fun, the colors throughout the state of Vermont were still amazing.
Today we woke late (I woke late) and took off for the Ben and Jerry’s factory. We drove down, as quickly as we could, but made a stop first at the Cabot Cheese Annex. They had a candy store, a cheese shop, a camera shop, and a few other shops in the annex. We shopped and tasted and had a great time. They had some amazing old cameras in the camera shop, but I was good and bought nothing.

Autumn colors abound on the Kancamagus Highway
The highway parallels the Swift River from Conway, New Hampshire to Lincoln, New Hampshire.
Wow what a day! Where to begin...
We had breakfast at a wonderful little place called Peaches. The food was great, and following the advice of the napkin notes under glass at each table I decided to try their bacon. It was AMAZINGLY good bacon. So the advice was certainly justified.

Another Long Drive

Rocky Coastline, Thunder Hole (Cropped)
No photos taken today, so, we’ll add another from yesterday.
The drive from Bar Harbor to North Conway new Hampshire took HOURS! But it wasn’t a bad drive. The scenery was beautiful! But unfortunately we didn’t take time to stop anywhere.
Upon arriving at our hotel for the night, we were surprised to find out that our room had been upgraded to a suite! We have a bedroom and a living room and a small balcony. The hotel is very nice and close to the White Mountains, which we hope to visit tomorrow.
More tomorrow!

Acadia National Forest

Leaves Change in the Acadia national park.
This forested area was beautiful. We drove the loop road through the park and enjoyed beautiful views, fall colors, and crisp cool air.
Today we drove through the Acadia National Park. The park was amazing. I could have spent days wandering around. We enjoyed the trees that had changed colors. We saw much of the rocky coastline of Maine. We saw Sand Beach, one of the few sandy beaches in Maine. The “sand” is actually mostly broken shell fragments, which made it interesting to see and feel.

Salem, MA Graveyard
This graveyard is the site of the Witch Trial judges, as well as the memorial to the poor men and women that were falsely accused and convicted of witchcraft.
We discovered that Boston is the city of tunnels! After driving around and under the city, we finally got onto the freeway and began our tip to Salem. The drive was very pretty, taking us past trees on their way to fall colors, beautiful little towns, and even a little water.
